A sample board as you could set it up in Contals. Names are made up.

Coordinating shouldn’t mean chasing people.

In a group chat of 80 people every task scrolls away – and on Friday evening you message everyone one by one.

Contals is made for people who drop in now and then.

Video: with “My cards” and “This week”, the board shows only what matters now.
  • Volunteers always free
  • Take a task with one tap
  • Simple view for phones
  • Polls without an account

In by QR code

Volunteers scan the code, sign up free and take a task.

Learn more – In by QR code

Print the invite link as a QR code. Volunteers scan it and sign up, free. In the simple view they take a task for the volunteer day with “I’ll do it” and find it in “My tasks”.
Video: a status update “At risk” is published for the open day, and the current status turns yellow.

Find dates without an account

Helpers vote by link; the best date lands in the calendar.

Learn more – Find dates without an account

Propose dates for the team evening on a card. Guests vote by link, without an account. Pick the best date: it becomes the card’s due date and shows in the calendar.

Up and running in three steps

  1. A board per event

Empty or from a template, in two minutes.

  2. Invite helpers

By link or QR code – free, signing in with a link instead of a password.

  3. Jobs as cards

Open items show everyone where help is needed.

For anyone coordinating many occasional helpers

Food banks, festivals, clubs, refugee aid: wherever work is shared across many shoulders.

  • Recurring volunteer days
  • Events and festivals
  • Onboarding new helpers
  • Finding dates

There are no text-message reminders – every helper needs an e-mail address.

The catch? Contals is new.

Only people who create and organize boards pay – volunteers are free on every plan, on any number of boards.

Without an account, people can only answer a date poll or make a booking; everything else needs a free account.

The full picture: costs, export, cancelling, where data lives
What it costs
Full members (people who create and organize boards) pay per month. Volunteers, guests and viewers are free on every plan, forever. A small team uses Contals for free: up to 5 full members and 10 active boards. On the free plan, notifications arrive in the app, by push and in the weekly summary e-mail. A free organization nobody uses for 90 days is paused until an owner signs in again. Prices are early-access prices and become final before the public launch.
Your data stays yours
Export a board or a workspace as JSON at any time, on every plan – cards, comments, Power-Up data and the activity of the last 13 months; the whole organization in one file on Team and Business. No support ticket, no fee.
Leaving is easy
Cancel any time; paid plans run to the end of the period, then the organization continues on the free plan – nothing is deleted. An organization is deleted only when an owner asks for it, 30 days later; deleting your account removes your personal data after a 30-day grace period. Billing records are kept only as long as tax law requires.
Where your data lives
Board data, the database and backups are stored in Cloudflare’s EU jurisdiction; a second, encrypted copy of the backups lies at DigitalOcean in Frankfurt (Germany). Cloudflare is a US company; we say “EU data residency”, not “sovereign”. Details on the security page.
How we make money
From full members on paid plans. No ads, no selling or sharing of data, no tracking cookies, no metered AI credits. Visits to the website and the sign-in pages are counted with privacy-friendly, cookieless statistics (Fathom); signed-in pages load none.

Every job filled before Saturday comes

What a week can look like – an invented example.

  1. Mon 19:00

You set up Saturday’s jobs: one card per job.

  2. Wed 12:10

A helper taps “Give it back” – the item is open again.

  3. Wed 20:30

A newcomer takes it with “I’ll do it”.

  4. Sat 08:00

Every job is filled. You unlock the doors.

Without one place

  • A group chat with 80 people.
  • Gaps show up on Friday evening.
  • You message everyone one by one.

With Contals

  • Helpers take tasks themselves.
  • Open items show where help is needed.
  • Everyone finds their tasks in “My cards”.

Questions and answers

Do volunteers pay or count as seats?

No. The volunteer role is free on every plan and never counts as a billable seat. People who only answer a date poll need no account at all.

What can volunteers do in Contals?

They see the boards shared with them, comment, tick checklist items, take an open checklist item or give it back, vote, answer date polls and mark the cards assigned to them as done. Creating cards and boards and changing their structure is for full members.

Can volunteers pick their tasks themselves?

Yes. Put the jobs on a card as checklist items – one per job or per place on a team, with a date and a time if you like. Volunteers tap “I’ll do it” on an open item and see it in “My cards”, in the summary e-mail and in their calendar subscription; “Give it back” frees it again. Everyone on the board sees who took what.

What happens to volunteers’ contact details?

Volunteers have their own free account. Their e-mail address is shown only to the board’s editors and admins, like every member’s, and goes when they delete the account. People who answer a date poll without an account leave a name, and an address only if they want the result; that address is deleted once the final date has been sent.

Is Contals easy for older or occasional volunteers?

Volunteers, viewers and guests start in the simple view: fewer buttons, larger text, every control at least 44 pixels and plain words. Everything also works with the keyboard; Contals aims to meet WCAG 2.2 level AA and is partially conformant – the accessibility statement lists the known limitations.

Does it work on old phones?

Contals runs in any modern mobile browser; open boards stay readable from a local copy with a weak connection, and a date poll is a plain page that works without the app.
