Simple view and accessibility

The simple view is Contals for people who help now and then: fewer buttons, larger text, every control at least 44 pixels and plain words. It is on from the start for volunteers, viewers and guests, and everyone can switch it on or off in the profile.

Profile (avatar, top right → Profile and settings) → section Accessibility → Use the simple view. The choice is saved with your account and applies on all your devices.

  • Volunteers, viewers and guests – people whose roles are all free – start with the simple view. The home page shows one short card with Keep it and Show all features until they choose – with Install the app inside it where the browser can install Contals.
  • Full members (owners, admins, members of any workspace) start with the full view.
  • An explicit choice in the profile always wins.
  • My tasks – your cards and checklist items across boards, each with its due date, the soonest first.
  • On a board: the cards (a tap anywhere on a card opens it, or Open), ticking checklist items, comments, Mark as done, date polls – and, below the notes, votes.
  • I’ll do it: a button under every checklist item nobody has taken yet, and in a card’s Who does it – volunteers and guests take a card themselves (they cannot assign other people) and give it back with Give it back. Who does something reads You or a first name.
  • Plain words: Notes for the description, Checklists, Who does it for assignees; a clear Saved after every change. No card numbers – on the board, in the card, in My tasks, on the home page and in your e-mails.
  • The profile shows the basics – name, appearance and language, notifications, the simple view, Sign out – and More settings opens the rest in place. The notification settings show this device and one switch per kind; Show all options opens the rest.
  • On phones the card details are a full page with Back to the board.
  • The workspace calendar stays.

Hidden in the simple view: the board filter, card numbers, the board key and favorite star, Power-Up and board settings, templates, imports, workspace settings, the assistant, the activity feed, moving, linking, archiving, copying and AI in the card details, calendar subscriptions and API tokens, and the workspace dashboard. Switch to the full view to use them; what you may do on a board is still decided by your role, not by the view.

Everything in Contals works with the keyboard – see the keyboard shortcuts. Cards, lists and checklist items can be moved without dragging: Move to list and Position in the card details, Move list left and Move list right in the list menu, Move up and Move down in the checklist item menu, and in the calendar by changing the card’s due date.

Single-key shortcuts (/ for the search, F for the board filter) can be turned off in the same profile section, for example when you use speech input; ⌘K / Ctrl K keeps working.

Contals aims to meet WCAG 2.2 level AA and is partially conformant today. The accessibility statement lists what we test and the known limitations – among them the calendar month grids, which screen readers read day by day but not as a table, and tests with people who use assistive technology every day, which are still to come.
