What it costs: Full members (people who create and organize boards) pay per month. Volunteers, guests and viewers are free on every plan, forever. A small team uses Contals for free: up to 5 full members and 10 active boards. On the free plan, notifications arrive in the app, by push and in the weekly summary e-mail. A free organization nobody uses for 90 days is paused until an owner signs in again. Prices are early-access prices and become final before the public launch.
Your data stays yours: Export a board or a workspace as JSON at any time, on every plan – cards, comments, Power-Up data and the activity of the last 13 months; the whole organization in one file on Team and Business. No support ticket, no fee.
Leaving is easy: Cancel any time; paid plans run to the end of the period, then the organization continues on the free plan – nothing is deleted. An organization is deleted only when an owner asks for it, 30 days later; deleting your account removes your personal data after a 30-day grace period. Billing records are kept only as long as tax law requires.
Where your data lives: Board data, the database and backups are stored in Cloudflare’s EU jurisdiction; a second, encrypted copy of the backups lies at DigitalOcean in Frankfurt (Germany). Cloudflare is a US company; we say “EU data residency”, not “sovereign”. Details on the security page.
How we make money: From full members on paid plans. No ads, no selling or sharing of data, no tracking cookies, no metered AI credits. Visits to the website and the sign-in pages are counted with privacy-friendly, cookieless statistics (Fathom); signed-in pages load none.

Questions and answers

Can I import my Trello boards into Contals?

Yes – one board or a whole Trello workspace at once. Export the boards from Trello as JSON (or connect with a Trello API key) and import them: lists, cards, labels, checklists with their people and dates, custom fields, comments, due dates and reminders, covers, votes, locations, links between cards and attachments – files uploaded to Trello are copied with your API key, the rest become links. Only Butler automations, stickers, the activity history and data of third-party Power-Ups stay behind. You choose who each Trello member is in your workspace; nobody gets an account without accepting an invitation.

Is Contals a good Trello alternative?

If you value Trello’s board-list-card simplicity and want free guests and volunteers on many boards plus EU data residency, yes – automation, a calendar, custom fields and checklists are included in every plan. If you rely on third-party Power-Ups from Trello’s marketplace, native apps or a timeline view, it isn’t.

What happens to my Trello data?

It stays in Trello, untouched. Contals reads the JSON export you upload, or uses an API key and token only for the import and never stores them. Keep the export as an archive.

How is Contals different from Asana, monday.com and ClickUp?

Contals is deliberately smaller: Kanban boards first, few settings, features as Power-Ups. It prices per full member with free guests, volunteers and viewers, without seat packages or AI credits.
