# Contals > Contals is calm work management for teams with many projects and many helpers: Kanban boards like Trello, where volunteers and guests are free and the data stays in the EU. Contals is a web app (installable PWA) for organizing work on Kanban boards with lists and cards, similar to Trello. It is made for teams that coordinate many projects with many helpers – churches, charities, nonprofits and volunteer teams worldwide, and small teams and agencies. Key facts (as of 2026-10-16): - Pricing: per full member (people who create and organize boards) and month; volunteers, guests and viewers are free on every plan and any number of boards. Team CHF 4.50 / €4.50 / $4.50, Business CHF 9 / €9 / $9 per full member and month with annual billing (Team CHF 54 / €54 / $54 and Business CHF 108 / €108 / $108 a year), or Team CHF 5.50 / €5.50 / $5.50 and Business CHF 11 / €11 / $11 with monthly billing (early-access prices, final before the launch; the website's examples and price calculator compare on annual billing, like the competitors' list prices). A calendar, a dashboard and views across boards are part of every Contals plan; Trello includes them from Premium ($10). Contals Team costs CHF 4.50 / €4.50 / $4.50 per full member and month with annual billing – just under Trello Standard ($5). Billed in CHF, EUR or USD – an organization picks the currency at its first checkout, and a subscription keeps it; VAT and sales tax through Stripe Tax. Free plan up to 5 full members; every new organization gets Team for 14 days without a card, and a subscription cancelled during the trial ends on the free plan. Nonprofit pricing is on request, for churches and charities: registered churches, charities and associations ask for it on their organization’s billing page and get the Team plan free for up to 15 full members and 50 % off paid plans beyond that. AI with the organization's own model and the dashboard and calendar across boards are in every plan, the free plan too. - Written promise (https://contals.com/en/promise/; in early access the free-plan limits can still change before the launch): prices stay 12 months for existing customers, price changes announced 60 days and free-plan changes 6 months ahead, volunteers/guests/viewers free forever, export any time, no lock-in, 30-day refund. - Data residency: board data, database, queues and backups are stored in Cloudflare's EU jurisdiction (Cloudflare is a US company); a second copy of the backups lies at DigitalOcean in Frankfurt (Germany), encrypted by Contals before it leaves. - Realtime collaboration; boards stay readable offline from a local copy. - Undo and order: undo and redo of a person's own recent changes on a board (Ctrl/Cmd+Z, step by step, applied by the server and never over someone else's later change); an archive per workspace to browse, search and restore finished boards (read-only while archived, not counted towards the plan's boards per workspace); checklist items that become cards and show the card's status; "blocked by" links between cards of a board (dependencies Power-Up, in every plan; no Gantt chart). - Built and tested: a personal home page "For you" (what is due today and in the next 7 days, what waits for the person's answer, what changed on their boards), checklists (items with owner and due date), custom fields, card numbers such as GEM-12 whose board key board admins can rename or hide (old references keep working), a board filter with saved filters, search with operators, a workspace dashboard and calendar across boards, status updates, "since your last visit", templates (a church and event set, editions for schools, sports clubs, fire brigades, music schools and NGOs, general ones) and a reviewed community template gallery (structures only, CC0), invite links with a QR code for volunteers and viewers, copy and move between boards, calendar subscriptions (iCal), imports from Trello, Asana, Jira, monday.com, ClickUp, Notion, Wekan and CSV/Excel, and 16 Power-Ups in every plan (calendar, automation, card repeater, date polls, booking pages, chat notifications for Slack/Teams/Google Chat/Discord, and more). - Cards: file attachments (up to 10 MB per file and 1 GB of storage on the free plan, up to 100 MB per file on paid plans; photos lose their location and camera data on upload; previews, covers, PDFs in the browser; files are served from a separate domain with links that expire after 10–20 minutes), formatted descriptions and comments stored as Markdown, and @mentions that notify only people who can open the board; files uploaded to Trello are copied in after an import with a Trello API key. - Notifications: an inbox (assignments, mentions, comments on a person's cards …); push notifications through the installable web app (on iPhone and iPad from iOS 16.4, once Contals is on the Home Screen); for each kind of notification in the app, by push or by e-mail; quiet hours; due reminders; single notification e-mails, collected into one, on Team and Business; a weekly summary e-mail (daily if the person likes, on Team and Business). - AI: each organization connects its own model (OpenAI-compatible, Anthropic, Google Gemini) for an assistant, AI on cards and short summaries of a person's week and of what changed since their last visit; off until an owner or admin switches it on; no metered AI credits. - Sign-in and security: password, sign-in link, Google, Microsoft and other providers; two-factor sign-in (authenticator app and recovery codes) and passkeys, which organization owners can require; single sign-on (SAML 2.0, OpenID Connect) on Team and Business; an audit log for organization owners and admins on every plan; retention rules per board that archive or delete done cards after a number of days. - Plan limits: Free 10 active boards per workspace (archived boards do not count), 1 GB of storage with files up to 10 MB, 500 automation runs (rules and card repeaters that changed something) per organization and month, up to 50 e-mail invitations a day (invite links do not count); Team unlimited boards, 10 GB of storage per paid full member pooled across the organization (at least 50 GB), files up to 100 MB, 5,000 automation runs a month; Business 25 GB per paid full member (at least 250 GB), unlimited automation runs. When an organization's automation runs for the month are used up, its rules and repeaters pause until the next month, with a notice on the board and an inbox item for the board admins. - Free plan: notifications in the app, by push and in the weekly summary e-mail, at most 200 notification e-mails per organization and month, the summaries included; an organization nobody uses for 90 days is paused (read-only, nothing deleted) until an owner signs in; links in the texts of its public poll and booking pages show as plain text until it pays or is approved as a nonprofit. Public poll and booking pages have a "Report abuse" link. - Export of boards and workspaces on every plan, of whole organizations on Team and Business, as JSON with the activity of the last 13 months (a board keeps 13 months of history; texts erased by deletions, edits or retention rules are not in it); account deletion erases personal data after a 30-day grace period; an organization is deleted 30 days after an owner asks for it (read-only and exportable until then) – when a paid plan ends, it continues on the free plan and nothing is deleted; every deletion is re-applied after a restore. - Switching: the Trello import takes one board or a whole Trello workspace (JSON export, a workspace export's ZIP file, or the Trello API) with lists, cards, labels, checklists (items keep their person and due date), custom fields, comments, due dates with times and reminders, covers, votes, locations, template cards and boards, board roles and links between cards; files uploaded to Trello are copied in afterwards; only Butler automations, stickers, the activity history and data of third-party Power-Ups stay behind; a free, guided Trello migration in a video call for a limited number of organizations – staff never get passwords, access to boards or the export file (https://contals.com/en/switch/migration-service/); a price calculator compares the list prices of Trello, Asana and Contals with sources (https://contals.com/en/price-calculator/). - Provider: Contals is operated by Unique-P GmbH, Burengasse 11, 4655 Stüsslingen, Switzerland (UID CHE-294.954.310); the terms of service and the privacy policy follow Swiss law (the privacy policy also the GDPR), and the legal texts are binding in German and English, the German version prevailing (https://contals.com/en/imprint/, https://contals.com/en/terms/, https://contals.com/en/privacy/). - Accessibility: aims to meet WCAG 2.2 level AA and is partially conformant (statement: https://contals.com/en/accessibility/); a simple view with fewer buttons and larger targets is on by default for volunteers, viewers and guests. - Languages: the app in English, German, Swiss German, French, Italian and Spanish; the website in English, German, French, Italian and Spanish (French, Italian and Spanish are recent translations); the docs and the legal texts in English and German; built-in templates in every website language. - Status: early access (October 2026). - Since the fix wave of 16 October 2026: volunteers and guests take open cards and checklist items themselves ("I'll do it"), and boards made from a template or an import are shared with the workspace by default; the simple view's "My tasks" shows due dates; "My cards" means the cards assigned to the person (the unassigned cards they created are listed apart); search finds "Gelände" from "gelande" or "gelaende" and words inside compounds; archived lists and cards can be restored from a board sidebar, and "?" lists the keyboard shortcuts; the calendar Power-Up opens on the next due date and has "Set a date"; public poll and booking pages name the organization behind them, show members by first name and time zones as cities, and booking cards carry the appointment type (the booker's name only if switched on); sign-in e-mails carry a 6-digit code for the installed app, a sign-in link lets a person set a new password, and invite links work with Google and Microsoft; organizations record a privacy contact and accept the data processing agreement in their settings; a board's cards export as CSV; when a payment fails, every member sees why the organization is read-only. - For AI agents: public REST API at https://app.contals.com/api/public/v1 (OpenAPI: https://app.contals.com/api/public/v1/openapi.json) and an MCP server at https://app.contals.com/mcp, both with personal API tokens; `GET /my-cards` and the MCP tool `list_my_cards` return the cards assigned to the token's owner (the app's own My cards answer adds the unassigned cards the person created as `created`); an agent can also start a sign-up for a person and receive a token after the person approves – see the AI agents guide below.
