FAQ

Short answers to the questions people ask most about Contals. Each answer starts with the direct answer.

Contals is a web app for organizing work on Kanban boards – boards, lists and cards like Trello – made for teams with many projects and many helpers, such as churches, charities, associations and small teams.

Contals charges per full member and month, in Swiss francs, euros or US dollars; volunteers, guests and viewers are free on every plan, and small teams use it for free. Every new organization starts with a 14-day trial of the Team plan without a card. Prices are early-access prices, monthly or yearly, and become final before the launch; see the pricing page and plans and billing.

Owners, admins and members of a workspace – the people who create and organize boards. A person counts once per organization, however many workspaces they are in.

Is there a discount for churches and charities?

Section titled “Is there a discount for churches and charities?”

Yes, on request, for churches and charities. Registered nonprofits ask for it on their organization’s billing page: the Team plan free up to a number of full members and a discount on paid plans beyond that. See plans and billing.

In Cloudflare’s EU jurisdiction: board data, database, queues and backups. Cloudflare is a US company, which the privacy policy discloses.

No tracking cookies and no advertising trackers. The website, these docs and the app’s sign-in pages count visits with Fathom, a privacy-friendly analytics service without cookies; the sign-in pages report only the page type (such as /join), never the secret part of the link. Once you are signed in, Contals loads no statistics script. With Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track on in your browser, nothing is counted.

Not as a native app yet. Contals runs in the browser and can be installed on the home screen as a web app (PWA) that shows push notifications – on iPhone and iPad from iOS 16.4, once it is on the Home Screen. See install the app and turn on push. Native apps may come later.

Yes. Export the board from Trello as JSON (or connect with a Trello API key) and import it on the workspace’s Import page: lists, cards, labels, checklists, custom fields, comments, due dates, votes and attachments as links. See Switch from Trello. Asana, Jira, monday.com, ClickUp, Notion, Wekan and any CSV or Excel file work too: Import from other tools.

Yes: built-in templates for church festivals, youth camps, services, confirmation classes, Christmas plays, club events, fundraisers and volunteer days, plus general projects, editorial calendars, onboarding and weekly planning – most with due dates counted from your date. You can also save your own boards as templates. See templates, copy and move.

Invite them as volunteers – free on every plan. On a card they take an open checklist item with I’ll do it (“who brings the chairs?”) and hand it back with Give it back; the simple view shows them what they need first. People without an account can answer a date poll or book a time on a public page. See checklists and custom fields and invitations and roles.

Yes. Each workspace has a dashboard with open, overdue and done cards and each board’s status, a calendar with every due date, and filters that work across boards. See dashboard, calendar and filters.

Yes. Export a board or a workspace as JSON with the history of the last 13 months at any time, on every plan; the whole organization at once on Team and Business. See data export.

Partly. Open boards stay readable offline from a local copy; changes need a connection. See offline and sync.

No. Volunteers accept an e-mail invitation and use Contals in the browser, starting in the simple view. They can sign in with a link instead of a password. To answer a date poll or book a time they need no account at all.

Only if your organization switches it on with its own AI model (OpenAI-compatible, Anthropic or Google Gemini): an assistant and AI features on cards, with a data policy you control. Contals sells no AI credits. AI assistants can also work with Contals through the API and the MCP server. See your own AI model and AI agents.

Contals aims to meet WCAG 2.2 level AA and is partially conformant: everything works with the keyboard, and the simple view offers fewer buttons, larger text and plain words. The accessibility statement lists the known limitations. See simple view and accessibility.

Yes: sign-in with Google, Microsoft and other providers, and single sign-on with SAML 2.0 or OpenID Connect per organization on every paid plan (Team and Business). See sign-in methods and SSO.

Yes. Turn on two-factor sign-in on your profile with an authenticator app – you get single-use recovery codes for a lost phone – and add passkeys to sign in with your fingerprint, face or device PIN. Organization owners can require two-factor sign-in of everyone who works in the organization. See two-factor sign-in and passkeys.
