Templates, copy and move
Contals has built-in templates – a church and event set (church festival, youth or summer camp, service planning, confirmation classes, Christmas celebration and nativity play, club event, fundraiser, volunteer day), the industry editions (school year and project week; season planning and tournament for sports clubs; training year and open day for fire brigades; term and concert for music schools; grant application and project cycle for NGOs) and general ones (project, editorial calendar, onboarding, kanban, weekly planning, switching from Trello). A new board gets their texts in the language you use Contals in: English, German, French, Italian or Spanish. Every built-in template also has a page on the website. Any board can also become a template for your workspace, organizations share structures as community templates, and cards, lists and boards can be copied or moved.
Start a board from a template
Section titled “Start a board from a template”- On the home page, choose From a template on the new-board tile, or Templates next to a workspace’s name.
- Pick a template – the filters above the gallery group them by field (churches, schools, sports clubs, fire brigades, music schools, NGOs). The preview shows every list and card with its due date, plus the labels, custom fields, automation and suggested Power-Ups.
- Enter the board’s name and the key date – for example Date of the event – and see the due dates move with it: “Set the date and theme” ten weeks before the festival, “Thank the volunteers” the week after.
- Choose Who can see the new board: Everyone in the workspace (the default – volunteers and viewers who join see it) or Only me (share later).
- Create board.
Creating boards from templates is online only, like every copy.
Save your own board as a template
Section titled “Save your own board as a template”Board settings → Save as template: the board becomes a template in the gallery of this workspace, shared with the workspace. It keeps lists, cards, checklists, labels, custom fields, links and due dates – but no comments, members or done states. You edit a template like any board; automation rules and card repeaters stay switched off inside it and are switched on in the boards created from it. A template’s dates move to the date picked when someone uses it.
- A card: card details → Copy → choose the board, the list and the position, and what to keep (checklists, labels, members, due date, custom fields, links; comments are off by default). Votes and snoozes are never copied, and the copy starts open.
- A list: list menu (…) → Copy list… – the list is copied with its open cards, checklists, labels and fields, on the same board or another one.
- A board: board settings → Copy board – a new board with the same lists, labels, custom fields and Power-Ups, With cards or without. Invite the members sends them an invitation to the copy; nobody is added without accepting.
Move to another board
Section titled “Move to another board”- A card: card details → Move to board…. The card keeps its comments, checklists and links. Labels and fields are matched by name on the other board (missing ones are created), and people without access to that board are removed from the card. The old link tells everyone where the card went.
- A list: list menu (…) → Move list to board… moves the list with its cards.
Moving needs the editor role on both boards; copying needs read access to the source and the editor role on the target. Cards with a date poll or a booking cannot be moved to another board, and copies leave those behind, because they hold data of people outside the team.
