Search

Press / or ⌘K (Ctrl+K on Windows and Linux) anywhere in Contals to search. The search finds boards, cards, descriptions, comments and pages across every board you have access to – and nothing else.

  1. Press / or ⌘K, or click the search field at the top.
  2. Type a few letters. Results appear grouped as Boards, Cards and Pages.
  3. Use the arrow keys ↑ ↓ to pick a result and Enter to open it. Escape closes the search.

Cards open with their details in the sidebar, on the right board.

For longer result lists, open Search from the menu. It searches card titles, descriptions and comments and shows the board each card belongs to.

  • All boards you can open – in every workspace you belong to.
  • Card titles, descriptions, comments and text custom fields; board titles.
  • Card numbers: type GEM-12 to open that card – also with an earlier key of the board, after a card moved to another board, and on boards that hide card numbers (see board settings).
  • Archived cards are not shown.

Add operators to the search words to narrow the results, also without any words:

OperatorFinds cards …
#Label or label:Labelwith this label (by name, on every board)
@me, @nobodyassigned to you / to nobody
due:overdue, due:today, due:week, due:nextweek, due:noneby due date
is:open, is:done, is:stale, is:archivedby status (is:stale: open cards without activity for their board’s stale setting)
Field:valuewhose custom field matches: text contains, dropdown option, yes/no for checkboxes
Field>=10, Field<=2026-12-31, Field:1..5in a number or date range
has:Field, no:Fieldwith or without a value in this field

Put names with spaces in double quotes: "Event date":2026-12-24. On the search page, Filter by field adds a field operator for you. Without search words, a person, a label, a due date, a field value or a checklist item must be part of the search. To filter a single board, use the board filter.

Private boards you are not a member of never appear, not even as a count.

Search ignores accents and umlauts, and finds a word inside a longer one: gelande, gelände and gelaende all find a card called “Nachtgeländespiel”, zurich and zuerich find “Zürich”. In the search box in the header, Escape empties the search; it is empty again on every new page.

My cards (in the menu) lists every card assigned to you across all boards, and in a second section the Checklist items assigned to you (open ones first, by due date). “My cards” always means the cards assigned to you – on this page, in the workspace dashboard and in a board’s My cards tab. Cards you created that nobody is assigned to yet follow in a section of their own, Created by you, not assigned yet. Use the page as your personal to-do list – the cards stay on their team boards, nothing is copied. In the simple view it is called My tasks.
