Getting started

Getting started with Contals takes about two minutes: create an account, confirm your e-mail address, name your organization or team, invite your team (optional) and open the starter board “Getting started”.

Open app.contals.com and choose Create account. Enter your name, e-mail address and a password with at least 10 characters. Alternatively, choose E-mail me a sign-in link to sign in without a password, continue with a provider such as Google or Microsoft, or use Continue with SSO if your organization has single sign-on – see sign-in methods.

Contals sends a confirmation link to your address (valid for 24 hours). Click it and then Confirm my address on the page that opens – the extra click is there because e-mail security programs open links before you do. Nothing is created before you confirm – no workspace, no board. If the e-mail does not arrive, use Send the link again and check your spam folder.

After confirming, the welcome steps start. First, Name of your organization or team, for example “St. Martin Parish” or “Design Studio Huber”. The name appears on invoices, invitations and the page people join through. It names your organization and its first workspace – a workspace is your team’s home; you can rename either one later in the settings. If you leave the welcome steps halfway, they continue where you stopped.

Enter one or more e-mail addresses and pick a role for them:

  • Member – creates and edits boards (a full member, billed on paid plans);
  • Admin – also manages members and settings;
  • Volunteer – helps on shared boards, free;
  • Viewer – can only read, free.

Everyone gets an e-mail invitation that is valid for 14 days – people who already have an account also see it on their home page, under For you to answer → Invitations (or Invitations for you when that section is hidden). Nobody joins without accepting. You can skip this step and invite people later.

Contals creates a board called Getting started with a few cards. Each card teaches one thing: opening card details, renaming a card in place, dragging cards between lists, inviting your team, searching with / or ⌘K, turning on Power-Ups and creating your own board. Work through the cards, then archive them or delete the board.
