# Install the app and turn on push notifications

> Put Contals on your Home Screen or desktop like an app and get push notifications on your phone or computer – in Chrome, Edge and Firefox, and on iPhone and iPad from iOS 16.4 once Contals is on the Home Screen.

Contals runs in the browser, and you can install it like an app: it gets its own icon, opens in its own window, starts with the last state even without a connection, and can show push notifications while it is closed. Nothing comes from an app store.

## 1. Install Contals

- **Chrome and Edge** (Windows, macOS, Linux, Android): the home page shows a card **Install the app** with the button **Install Contals** – your browser then asks once. Or use the browser's menu: **Install app** or **Add to Home screen**. **Not now** hides the card on this device for 30 days.
- **iPhone and iPad** (Safari): tap **Share**, then **Add to Home Screen**, and open Contals from the new icon. The card on the home page shows these two steps.
- **Safari on a Mac:** **File** → **Add to Dock**. **Firefox** on a computer keeps Contals in a tab – push notifications work there too.

Once Contals is installed, the settings page says **Contals is installed on this device.**

## 2. Turn on push notifications

Profile → **Summary e-mail and notifications** → **This device** → switch on **Push notifications on this device**. Your browser asks whether Contals may show notifications: allow it. **Send a test notification** shows one within a few seconds.

- Push is set per device: switch it on on every phone or computer that should get notifications.
- **iPhone and iPad** need iOS or iPadOS 16.4 or later **and** Contals on the Home Screen (step 1). Open Contals from its icon and switch push on there – in a Safari tab it is not available.
- A device marked as shared in your profile gets no push notifications.
- If you blocked notifications for Contals earlier, allow them again in your browser's site settings, then switch push on.

## 3. Choose what comes by push

Under **What you hear about, and where** you choose for each kind of notification – assignments, mentions, due reminders, comments on your cards, invitations, status updates, Power-Ups (polls, bookings, cards that can start) – whether it comes in the app, by push and by e-mail ([notifications](/docs/en/finding/notifications/)). Under **Lock screen**, **Minimal** makes notifications say only that something new is waiting, without card, board or people's names. Notifications about confidential boards are always minimal.

## 4. Turn push off

Switch off **Push notifications on this device**, or sign out on that device – Contals forgets the device at once. Blocking notifications for Contals in the browser works too.

> **Privacy:**
>
> Your browser maker's push service (Google, Apple, Mozilla or Microsoft) delivers the notifications, encrypted for your device: it cannot read them. Details in the [privacy policy](/en/privacy/).
