Contals keeps every open board in sync in real time: your changes appear immediately on your screen and are confirmed by the server a moment later, and other people’s changes arrive on their own. If the connection drops, the board stays readable from a local copy, but changes need a connection.

## The status badge

| Badge | Meaning |
|---|---|
| **Live** | Connected; changes are saved and shared within a moment |
| **Connecting…** | Opening the connection |
| **Reconnecting… changes are kept** | The connection dropped briefly; your recent changes wait and are sent when it is back |
| **Offline – read-only, as of …** | No connection; you see the saved copy from the time shown |
| **… unsaved** | Number of your changes still waiting for confirmation |

## When the connection drops

- Changes you made just before stay on screen and are sent automatically when the connection is back.
- If the connection stays away, the board switches to read-only and shows how fresh the copy is.
- When you leave a page with unsaved changes, Contals warns you.

## Rejected changes

The server checks every change. If one cannot be saved – you lack the permission, the card was archived meanwhile, a board limit is reached – Contals undoes it on your screen and says why. Your other changes are not affected.

## The local copy

Boards you opened are kept in your browser (IndexedDB) so they open fast and stay readable offline. On a [shared device](/docs/en/settings/profile/#this-device-and-signed-in-devices), no copies are kept. If someone removes your access, the local copy is deleted.

## Several tabs

You can open the same board in several tabs; each stays in sync.

> **Note:**

> Offline editing (a queue of changes made while offline) is not part of Contals today. Offline is a safety net for reading, not a way of working.
